Thank You for Igniting Potential for Island Youth!

Bowl for Kids Sake is such an important community fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Prince Edward Island.  We can’t thank the Flappers, Fellas and Good Eggs enough for raising some clams to ignite the power potential of Island Kids. Bowl for Kids Sake 2020 was a huge success! We would like to thank all of the spiffy participants, sponsors and volunteers who helped raise more than $112,577!!

Events certainly slowed down the collection of pledges and raffle tickets after our Bowl for Kids Sake weekend.  We really want to thank everyone for their patience as delivering prizes and holding draws happened much later than usual.  We hope everyone has been able to stay safe and healthy while we all practiced social distancing and we can’t wait until we can see you all again.

Charlottetown raised $81,501

North Rustico raised $4,150

Summerside raised $13,643

Tignish raised $1,591

Air Canada Draw

Congratulations to the big winner of our Air Canada Draw, Marlee Gregory! Marlee has been bowling with the Mount Continuing Care Community, “The Repeats” since 2009, and has been an active volunteer over the years. She won 2 Economy Class tickets valid for travel to any Air Canada scheduled destination in North America including Hawaii, Mexico & the Caribbean, which are valid until September 2021. A huge thank you goes out to the Air Canada Foundation for their flexibility and continued support over the years.

You can’t have a great party without some great treats!

On Bowl for Kids Sake Weekend we host more than 1100 keen fundraisers at 4 Thank You Events across PEI.  That’s a lot of logistics for our Food Sponsor Tim Hortons! Luckily the Kensington, O’Leary, St Peters Road, Water Street Summerside, and Winsloe locations were hitting on all sixes – they provided swell muffins, cookies and Tim Bits throughout the weekend.  Once again this year, our friends at PEPSI provided a variety of soft drinks for our bowlers. This year, Mallett’s Radiator Service Ltd provided the candy our Greeters gave out at the door and O’Leary Farmers Co-op sponsored the keen Best Individual Costume Prizes and Door Prizes we gave out on the lanes.

We really can’t thank Tim Hortons, PEPSI, Mallett’s Radiator Service Ltd, and O’Leary Farmers Co-op enough for their ongoing support! We think you’re the Cat’s Meow!!

Bowl for Kids Sake Impact

By supporting Bowl for Kids Sake, you enable life-changing mentoring relationships that ignite the power and potential of Island youth. You help provide mentors for youth who face adversity and who are in need of an additional consistent and supportive developmental relationship. Mentors challenge growth, provide support, expand possibilities and empower youth to succeed. Our vision is that all young people reach their full potential. With your support, we can forge a new path forward.  We know the simplest acts create the biggest impact and these actions can empower potential everywhere.

Bowling Alley thank you

Hosting a Bowl for Kids Sake event is a huge undertaking!  For a few hours…..or in the case of The Alley, the whole weekend, our staff and event volunteers come in and take over the facilities.  We couldn’t have thrown such fun Roaring 20’s themed Thank You parties without the help of the staff and management of the bowling lanes who host us!  There are so many details and extra work they each take on to host us and they all provide such excellent customer service with such good cheer.  We want to thank:

Ian Wilkes, North Rustico Lions Club Bowling Lanes (and the staff of the Club)

Team bags

We loved our team captain bags that were generously donated by the PEI Bag Company; the designs were such a great fit with our Roaring 20’s theme. We were very busy this winter delivering these bags to all of our Bowl for Kids’ Sake teams! Each bag was filled with event information, some 1920’s themed treats sponsored by Beach Point Processing Company, bubble gum from Murphy’s Pharmacies and a free dance class voucher from Groove PEI. To top it off, these burlap bags were lined on the inside, making them great reusable shopping bags!

Meet Kele!

Each year we hire a Bowl for Kids’ Sake Assistant to help organize one of our biggest fundraisers. This year we were lucky to have Kele on board. Kele has had a long history working in non-profit, community development and event coordination. With her help, we were able to recruit 183 Bowl for Kids’ Sake teams! Although the last two months of Kele’s contract were spent working from home, Kele was just as much fun to work with online as she was in the office. We wish Kele all the best in her future endeavors!
