Thanks to the RBC Foundation, we were able to launch a new program this summer – Launch Your Life. Although our program was delayed several months by the pandemic, we were still able to facilitate it safely last month.
Thirteen youth, ages 14-16, participated in a week long program focusing on self-exploration, post-secondary readiness, financial literacy, career readiness, resume & application writing, and other life skills.
Several guest speakers came in and held workshops on grit and goal setting, money management, and healthy boundaries in relationships. We were thrilled to have Sherry Mitchell from RBC talk about Financial Literacy.
During Myron’s session on Grit, Perserverance and Networking, Mirko expressed his interest in radio and voice work. Thanks to our friends at MBS Radio, Mirko was able to spend some time with Adam Ramsay while he was doing our radio remote at the Dream Cottage. Before the end of the remote, Mirko talked about his experience in the program on the radio and he did a marvelous job!
The nature of work is changing – now more than ever. The Launch your Life program’s goal is to provide youth with the skills required to adapt and flourish in the changing workforce. We hope to offer another session this Fall for youth between the ages of 20-24.
Congratulations and thank you to Tracy Lynn, our three mentors Lawkeysha, Ashanti and Anaka, the presenters, and students who participated, for making the launch of this new program so successful. We also would like to thank the sponsors and partners who helped make this program a reality.
